This one is a little crude for my taste, put down your sandwich...
One of my goals in 2009 is to breathe. It's harder than you think. A goal for 2008 was to get my allergies under control (thinking that would take care of my breathing). I am getting the allergies under control, but no such luck in the breathing department. I decided I was going to try a neti pot for 30 days. This is a plastic teapot filled with warm salt water that you pour into one side of your nose and the water is suppose to go up your sinus cavity and out the other nostril, cleaning out debris. I repeatedly tried it without any success. I couldn't get the water to come out the other side. The neti pot is good in theory, but terrible in reality. When you are done you have salt water up your nose, in your ears, and down your throat. Just like a day at the beach, in your very own bathroom!
My next plan was to see a ear, nose and throat guy. He gave me meds for a sinus infection and some steroids. The steroids almost killed me (well, not really, but my heart did not get along with the steroids very well). I finished the sinus infection meds, and I am happy to report that the congestion has significantly lessened.
But I still can't breathe.
I have a deviated septum on my left side. I have been told repeatedly to get it fixed. I am not a girl that just jumps under the knife so I needed to explore some other options. Over the last month I have been conscious of what side of my nose is congested (because one would think it is the left). 4 out of 5 times it is the right side. That led to some more investigation that I will leave out because it involves the inside of my body (my nose)so it is not fit for casual conversation.
This led to another dr's appt. We have now concluded (my doc and I) that I have an over-active membrane in my nose. It continuously swells shut and prevents breathing out the right side and leaves my poor gimp nostril to do all the work.
The solution? Surgery. April 7th I go under the knife. I am getting the membrane cut out and the deviant septum will be put back into its rightful place. Hopefully, this will cure the lack of oxygen to my brain.
Denae, I will give a full report back to aid in Ben's ultimate septum decision.
Unless, George needs me. I may have to put this off a little longer. He's in town!

Don't knock the Netti Pot. I believe that is a gift sent directly from God! It is so helpful when you have sinues full of junk. It is totally gross but so helpful.
Mikey had some kind of surgery to help him breath. I think it was for the deviated septum (sp?). He is all better now.
I hope this really helps. Life is good when you can breathe right.
I can see it now...you will run into Clooney with a swollen nose!

Thanks!!! Good, good. Good luck Anna. Breathe.
