Vindication?

Friday, February 6, 2009

They just announced that there will be a sequel to Sex and the City. My reaction is mixed. Michael Patrick King did such a lousy job with the last one, I was left with a very bad taste in my mouth. Maybe this is to right the wrongs.

Maybe Carrie and Big will divorce. I know this upsets people, but I am of the mind that Carrie deserves a happy healthy relationship with an emotionally-mature man that respects her. Call me crazy for wanting what is best. The show spent the whole time discussing that men weren't worth their time and then she ends up with the biggest slimeball of them all? This show was suppose to empower women, not tell them to settle for jerks. HE LEFT HE AT THE ALTAR. I am sorry, but that is a deal breaker for me. But again, I want mutual respect and a healthy relationship, maybe I am in the wrong.

The essence of the show was not needing men, not settling, and making mistakes and learning. Until the last episode and the movie, the writers completely respected this idea. Then they must have hired Nicholas Sparks because it turns into "love conquers all" story. You know what? Love DOESN'T conquer all. Love can't fight credit card bills, drinking, bad behavior and overall bad people. Respect conquers all. If you have the mutual respect you can see each other through a lot. You have respect to help each other and grow the relationship. You can love all you want but the the immature selfish man will never blossom into a the mature adult he should be.

Michale Patrick King, thank you for taking a positive feminine viewpoint and turning it into a disgusting fairytale. This is your chance, make it right.

I laughed at loud at the hiring of Nicholas Sparks as a SATC movie writer comment. We've been through this topic several times, and I won't rehash here. I will ask about the Reader here. For those of you who haven't seen it and will want to - stop reading now. When Ralph Fiennes is talking to the Jewish daughter towards the end of the film and it becomes obvious that he's been in love with Hanna his whole life - what were your thoughts on that? He loved her enough - not to save her with information at the trial - but to record hundreds of books for her, to come around at the end and find her a job and an apartment and I have a strong hunch that had she made it out of prison alive that he would have wanted her still. Sometimes, you just love who you love and accept their Nazi/Big ways.

excellent point about a relationship based on respect... respect will get you and your husband throught a house remodel, a bad market, a bad day and annyoing behavior (example always leaving cabinet doors open and slaming doors)love will not get you throught these things. However I thought respect was a component of love!!!!!!!! You can not love someone with out respect correct? As for the sex in the city movie it sucked (not because of the ending i like the ending) but because i did not want to see that dudes penis and I went to this movie with my mother I had to close my eyes (I have virgine eyes you know).

Does Carrie really deserve a healthy relationship? She is 50% of the unhealthy relationship. Some healthy guy doesn't need Carrie...like Ian.

Maybe his point in having the two of them marry is to show everyone how stupid she is to marry Big.
