Post Op Evaluation

Monday, April 13, 2009
On Friday I had an appointment to get my balloons removed. I was very happy.
I arrived at the office, properly drugged at 10 sharp. They deflated the balloons and then pulled them out. They were somewhere from 5-8" in length and in between a regular pencil and a kindergartner's pencil in width. They were in my nose all the way up into my sinus cavity in my forehead. The removal wasn't painful, just very weird and uncomfortable. The lasting effect has been when you get lots of water up your nose, that annoying burning. Then doctor sucked all the snot out of my head. That was the best part. Sorry to gross you out, but it was.
It has been amazing to breathe. I has no idea what I was missing. My deviated side isn't 100%. I am not sure if it will get better or if that's just how it will be. I am probably at 60%-70% capacity now on that side, which is a lot better, so no complaints.
It is so strange, but nice to breathe.
I would recommend this to anyone. I heard the balloons are the least painful to remove so if there is any way you can ask for them, do it.

Observations from the couch

Wednesday, April 8, 2009
so all went well yesterday. I have a small balloon up each nostril with tubes coming out of it that are taped to my face. My nose is huge and square and it looks like a have a wierd high-tech handlebar mustache. It comes out on Friday.
I can't taste anything because my nostrils are filled. My body is rejecting the balloons so I have an enormous amount of flem trying to fight the balloons. It is hard to remove flem when you can't pass air through your nose. But we'll move on.
Sunflowers are pretty. I had some delivered to my house yesterday.
TV blows, but I have spent the last 2 days sleeping for 20 minutes at a time, so TV hasn't been a big necessity.
I am thankful for Frasier, Will & Grace & Gilmore Girls.
I am thankful for How I Met You Mother dvds.
Sex & The City is on 4 times between 11pm & 4am on various channels.
I finally got my books from Amazon today. I started reading "Happens Every Day." It is really good so far.
My house has been quiet and that makes me happy.
I am excited to breathe.

Things to do

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
My surgery is next week and I am planning to be bored, bored, and miserable. I need suggestions. Movies, books, internet games. I would like to see movies I have never seen and overall I would like them to be somewhat light in subject matter. Please no "When A Man Loves a Women.' Also nothing to violent or guyish. Just for few ideas: I love Sliding Doors. I just saw Dan In Real Life, that was a nice little movie. I enjoy a good documentary. PLEASE, any suggestions.
What else can I do? I am really not looking forward to this.

I need some advice from my full-time moms. Besides nurturing and loving your children, what do you do all day?

Earth Hour

Wednesday, March 25, 2009
This Saturday from 8:30-9:30pm, the World Wildlife Fund is asking you to turn off your lights.

Earth Hour is a global event created to symbolize that each of us, working together, can make a positive impact on the world.

Who will be participating? The St. Louis Arch, The Sears Tower, The Golden Gate Bridge, The Great Pyramids of Giza, The Sydney Opera House even Google. There are over one thousand cities in 80 countries participating.
If you are in St. Louis, you can head to Busch Stadium for some festivities to celebrate Earth Hour and at 8:30, you can watch as the St. Louis skyline dims.

We are all in this together. One person does make a difference.

Prudish

Tuesday, March 24, 2009
I have figured out I blog about three things: what I am doing, steps to make the world a better place, and odd things people say to me. This will go under the 'odd' category.
Saturday night I was at my friend's Schriber's birthday celebration. Schriber was describing me to her current love interest (that's my new word for boyfriend/girlfriend) before I arrived. I was told I was described as "she comes off prudish, but she is actually cool." At first I was a little offended and then I realized that described me pretty well in some ways. I will stand behind the prudish adjective when it comes to: bodily fluids, bodily functions, dirty/racist jokes, and repulsive behavior such not living up to your potential, drug use, and people that don't put their kids to bed at a decent time. I am not however prudish in my world views, political stands, and personal responsibilities to make this world a better place. I guess I was surprised that the prudish comes to mind as a description before "stands up for what she believes in." You all can stop giggling now. I know I am a prude. I was just surprised by the order.
I then continue to walk into this prudish minefield by asking, "do I come across that way to you [current love interest]?" The reply back was yes and a comment in regards to my hair. It looked Republican. That was the straw. I can not have Republican hair. I don't want Democrat hair either. I did not realize I was sending out a Republican vibe to the masses with my hair.
Yesterday when I was in St Charles to get my allergy shots, I saw a man waiting in his truck. On the back of his window, that little hellion Calvin was doing his business. You all know what I am talking about, in the 1990's when Calvin was popular and there were stickers that would show Calvin annoyance by urinating on something. Under the stream were the words: Islamic fascists, illegal immigrants, liberals.' Thank God I have Republican hair.

Go Green

Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Here are some tips to be green on St. Patty's day.
1. Carpool to your destination, whatever it may be

2. Enjoy local beer. Food and drinks traveling less, always a good thing.

3. Drink beverages from the tap. Bottled beer, bottled soda, bottled water. the answer is always the same: get it out of a tap and reuse the cup. Another idea: drink a 40. It is less packaging.

4. Reuse your decorations and attire from year to year.

5. Just because it's nice outside: open your windows and let the fresh air in. Your house smells so good when it can breathe. I highly recommend Zyzal and Nasonex for those fresh air days. It's worth it.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Lent Bites

Monday, March 9, 2009

I know this is about sacrifice and I know I am suppose to be suffering. I am going to need to amend my past Lenten promise:
I will not go out to lunch by myself.
I will not get take-out (including Whole Foods and Wine Merchant)
I will not drive-thru anywhere (that's not really a sacrifice, I just wanted to add to the list)
I will not just go to lunch with a friend without a a legitimate reason (i.e. birthday)

I will not do these things alone or if it just Chuck and I.

We will also not eat at a restaurant if it is just us two.

That's a lot of sacrifice. I think Jesus would be pleased.
Tomorrow is the day. I get to see Clooney!! I can't wait.
